Franklin Mineral Museum and Mine Replica

Numerous rocks and minerals characteristic of the area can be found on the famous Buckwheat Dump, the mine waste pile dating from the 1870's.  Facilitities are available for the testing of specimens under ultraviolet light.  A museum exhibit shows what to look for.

Franklin fluorescent minerals are world famous.  Nowhere else on earth are fluorescent minerals found to compare.  This fact inspired the New Jersey State Legislature, in 1968 to proclaim Franklin, New Jersey,
"The fluorescent Mineral Capital of the World"

The image at the right is a sample of Franklin minerals displayed in daylight, and then the same specimen under ultraviolet light.
